Multi-cloud strategy from a storage perspective

Post by msttasnuvanava »

Data is the most important asset of organizations, and this is a reality that has not taken anyone by surprise. The information and intelligence obtained by processing this data is increasingly relevant for businesses, and is a key piece in their positioning and differentiation strategies and Digital Transformation.

Not in vain, we are immersed in the data era , and the combination of large amounts of information and technology gives organizations the opportunity to create competitive advantages, as well as develop new products and services focused on them.

So today, more than ever, IT groups are under pressure from several fronts:

There is an ever- increasing amount of data , and it is produced in an increasingly virtual environment, with employees able to work and processes able to run anywhere, at any time.
There are more types of data than ever before ( Block, File, Object, Containers, etc. ) and they are no longer confined to traditional Data Centers. This data is created, processed, and stored in multiple locations, including the Cloud and the Edge .
Business organizations are increasingly demanding greater innovation , and IT groups are expected to operate with high levels of agility and at contained costs, in order to generate more attractive business opportunities for their clients.
These pressures have led many clients to adopt, sometimes hastily, a Cloud First strategy , valuing positive aspects of the Public Cloud such as agility, scalability and flexible payment options , but not taking into account the challenges that, unequivocally, we will also encounter in this type of infrastructure, such as performance considerations, information governance or performance, among many others.

This is why we are seeing many organizations pivoting from a Cloud First strategy , focused on moving workloads entirely to the Public Cloud, to a more data-centric or Data First strategy , which involves choosing the best model and location for deploying workloads based on their requirements, whether technical or business .

Due to these considerations, up to 92% of our clients are adopting a Hybrid Cloud strategy , which makes use of elements of Public Clouds, but also of elements of Private Clouds. This Hybrid Cloud strategy, from the point of view of data and storage, is only achievable if we allow the mobility of our data , in a simple and consistent way , between the Private Cloud infrastructure and the Public Cloud infrastructure, since it is precisely this movement that will allow us to optimize from the point of view of capacity, and therefore cost, our existing and future infrastructure, enabling the ability to decide where and how we are going to run our applications and store our data.

What is our Multicloud strategy from a storage perspective?
So, how can we help our customers with the challenges that proper data management can generate? This new reality requires answers, which we at Dell Technologies group into 3 fundamental pillars:

Storage Cloud On-Premises : The Cloud is an operating model, not a place. Our strategy is to provide a Cloud operating model to the existing on-premises infrastructure, integrating with operational and deployment automation tools, achieving support for both traditional and next-generation workloads, integrating into automated Infrastructure as Code ( IaC ) flows, or within customized service catalogs. We will also allow the use of flexible consumption and pay-per-use models.
Storage Cloud Data Mobility : Some of our solutions, such as PowerMax or PowerProtect, will allow integration with the Public Cloud, allowing its extension through different mechanisms such as tiering to cost-optimized storage (enabling use cases such as Long Term Retention or backup and restoration to and from the Cloud). Likewise, solutions such as Unity , will allow us to have a native replica of solutions deployed directly on Public Cloud infrastructure, enabling use cases such as testing and development on Public infrastructure. Additionally, alternatively, many of our partners and other selected service providers have our solutions deployed in thei how to get us number for telegram data center, allowing us to have a fully managed copy of our data in them, which, additionally, and through high-speed connections ( AWS Direct Connect, Azure Express Route ) will be connected to the Public Cloud, allowing us to have our data close to it and above all to its services without being subject to its costs and restrictions, enabling use cases such as Disaster Recovery as a Service .
Storage Cloud In Cloud : Through this approach we will be able to deploy some of our solutions on the native infrastructure of a Public Cloud provider, such as OneFS on Google Cloud , which enables high-performance unstructured data storage for different use cases, such as Data Analytics use cases , where we will be able to use Google Cloud services with the flexibility and scalability provided by PowerScale , directly on Google's infrastructure, and allowing data mobility natively between our local and Public infrastructure.
You can see all this in the following video where I explain it in an innovative and educational format.

In short, what we seek with our Multicloud strategy is to enable innovation in our clients, allowing them to consume what they need, where they need it , and simultaneously respond to the main challenges presented by a correct data management policy , such as control of their data, governance, flexible consumption models and expense control , enabling their Hybrid Cloud and all the advantages derived from it, without giving up a unified, consistent and efficient management of their infrastructure.

Whatever challenges your business faces, Dell Technologies can help you with a broad portfolio and extensive experience in providing your infrastructure with the flexibility needed to respond easily and efficiently to your needs. Join us for the next Dell Tech Bits session, where we will discuss the main challenges facing proper data management today, and all the options we have to optimize it.
