With the advent of the Internet came the desire to create an ecosystem of products that are somehow connected and integrated . From household appliances, to automobiles, medical devices, clothing and other personal accessories ( wearables ) to industrial machines - everything and everything is connected and always accessible. This is known as the Internet of Things (IoT) but do you know what IIoT is?

Internet of Things (IoT): what is it?
One of the simplest definitions for the Internet of Things (IoT) is precisely this: the permanent connection to the internet of all types of unique devices, capable of identifying themselves on the network and communicating with each other.

Personally, I prefer a broader definition. For me, the Internet of Things can be israel whatsapp number database as the use of sensors, actuators and data communication technology embedded in physical objects that allow tracking, coordinating or controlling these objects over the Internet or a data network. In this way, it will be possible to have a world of networked smart objects.

The IoT has been driven by internet access , which is increasingly faster, more reliable and ubiquitous, as well as by the evolution of sensors, which are increasingly smaller, more diverse and, above all, cheaper.

If we add to this the power of the Cloud , we have the explanation for the explosion in the number of devices and applications that have been appearing every day. And the trend is growing. According to a study by Gartner, it is predicted that next year there will be around 20.8 billion objects connected to the Internet.

IIoT: from the Internet to Industry
For industry, the Internet of Things means having more data available to monitor and improve operations. IIoT, or Industrial Internet of Things, is a subcategory of IoT.

The term refers to IoT technology used in industrial environments, particularly in factories. IIoT is a key technology in Industry 4.0 .

IIoT enables more efficient energy management , remotely monitored security and emergency notification systems, as well as process automation and better infrastructure management and maintenance.

IIoT also has major implications for delivering smart, differentiated products to customers. Because of the ability to monitor remote systems in real time, connectivity opens the door to a variety of other business solutions, such as remote service and customer support options.

IIoT in PRIMAVERA solutions for industry
PRIMAVERA's ERP/MES for industry is positioned as the central core of a solution composed of several parts and functions as the central element to digitally connect the "Shop-Floor" to the "Top-Floor".

Through the integration services provided (API/Web API) a wide range of possibilities opens up, such as:

1. Collect operational data in real time through sensors, namely quantities produced, quantities of raw materials consumed, execution times, …

2. Perform an operation directly on the equipment, without the need for human intervention.

3. Collect data on the condition of the equipment and usage parameters that will make it possible to assess the need to carry out/reprogram maintenance interventions.
This real-time data collection will also allow the necessary alerts to be triggered on the mobile devices of those responsible, so that any necessary action can be taken more quickly and efficiently.

IIOT Challenges
The use of IIoT poses several challenges not only to industrial companies, but also to companies that offer integration solutions and services, namely:

• How to ensure data security and privacy?

• How to deal with legal compliance associated with the processing and sharing of information?

• How to provide services/interfaces that allow dealing with the heterogeneity of existing sensors, IoT platforms and communication protocols that are often proprietary to large industrial equipment manufacturers?

Despite the great challenges, the use of IoT opens doors to immense opportunities that deserve our attention and that will be decisive for the future of the industry and the solutions chosen to support its businesses.
