Spotify is preparing to "unfreeze" its rates (which could rise imminently)

Competition in the increasingly crowded streaming market has become fiercer over the past few years. The bubble that once surrounded this sector of activity has finally burst. All the more reason for Netflix, Disney+ and HBO Max to have decided to raise their prices in order to reconcile themselves with profitability (increasingly elusive in the streaming sector). And it seems that this upward trend could end up spreading to Spotify as well .
Officially launched in 2008, Spotify has the reputation of being the number one platform in the streaming audio market and has not introduced any changes to its rates for many years . But the "freeze" of its prices could be close to the "thaw", as Bloomberg reports .
The increase in rates that the Swedish company may be considering at this time would have been contributed to by the rise applied at the end of the year by its rival Apple Music .
Spotify CEO Daniel Ek recently admitted that he would like to increase the prices currently paid by subscribers in the United States for the streaming audio platform's services. "I think we're ready to raise prices ," Ek said.
Everything points to a possible price increase for Spotify being on the horizon, especially since another of the platform's competitors, Amazon Music, also increased its rates earlier this year. It does not seem, therefore, that the Scandinavian company will sit back and do nothing in the face of the upward trend in prices of its competitors, a trend that another of its rivals, Tidal, could also join in with.
Spotify price hike could take effect this summer
Spotify offers users a free version and a premium version for a fee. While the firs jamaica number screening t version is mainly financed by ads and has somewhat more restricted features, the second version offers users a 100% ad-free experience with additional features such as offline listening, better sound quality, and the ability to skip from song to song without any limits.
Although the Swedish company seems to be clear that it will sooner rather than later implement a price increase, we will have to wait for the results of its negotiations with the record companies to see how exactly this increase in rates will materialize. The record labels have, in fact, been putting pressure on Spotify for some time to increase its prices and thus also improve the remuneration received by the artists.
Spotify is determined to tighten its prices, but it is not clear when it will actually increase its rates. However, summer, which is when the famous streaming audio platform is most commonly used, seems to be the best time to announce a price increase. During the summer months, users seem less willing to cancel their Spotify subscription even when the company confronts them with rate increases, because this platform becomes, to a certain extent, essential at this time of year.
Spotify's price hike could also come with some extras. HD music, which is already offered by all of the Swedish brand's competitors, could finally become a reality on Spotify when the company announces (apparently sooner rather than later) its rate increase.
