The qualified signature (FEQ), which in the Italian legal system generally coincides with the digital signature. The qualified signature requires the intervention of a certified entity (known as CA, Certification Authority) that issues the signatory a qualified signature certificate, always after having verified his/her identity. Signature certificates have an expiration date and must be periodically renewed if one intends to continue using them to affix valid signatures.
