His name is Eugene and, although he only has one post on Instagram, his profile has 7.3 million followers and 46,907,831 likes at the time of writing, which will change very quickly as things stand.

Eugene, for those who don't know, is an egg. Although at first glance estonia whatsapp list looks like an ordinary, brown egg that can be found in any refrigerator, Eugene is anything but an ordinary egg because with just one post he achieved what many dream of but will never achieve no matter how much effort and money they invest in marketing.

Eugene became the most popular post on Instagram and dethroned Kylie Jenner, who held the record until this week, as well as all the other super popular people like Ronaldo, Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande, whose posts on Instagram regularly garner the most attention and likes.

Fame is fragile, popularity comes and goes, and Eugene got his 5 minutes of fame and achieved what no one else has ever done – got the entire internet talking about him, millions of people liking the picture (which, by the way, is just a free stock photo) and marketers like me racking their brains over what this egg has that no one else has.

Buzzfeed News managed to get a brief interview via email with the person behind the profile that took the internet by storm. It's Henrietta the hen who lives in the countryside in England and is very proud of her Eugene.

That's one version of the person. Another one, much more likely but still anonymous, is, according to Buzzfeed, a person who, according to his own words, lives in London, was bored surfing the internet and came across an article about the most popular people on Instagram, and decided to open a profile to see what would happen and whether he would manage to break the world record with some ordinary object.

And what's more ordinary than an egg? And so Eugene got his own profile under the name world_record_egg and a text under the picture asking to set the world record for the most likes on Instagram and break the one set by Kylie Jenner.

What happened? The picture was posted on January 4th and was pretty quiet for a while with about 8,000 likes. Then it took off and hasn't stopped yet. Eugene went viral 5 times and quickly became the most liked picture, convincingly beating Kylie, and in less than 24 hours he got the blue check mark that many only dream of sadly.

How did an ordinary but actually unusual egg gain such worldwide popularity?
There are many theories about the egg and its popularity. As Henrietta the hen says, Eugene is proof that fame is fragile and fleeting, and that good ideas come when you decide to give up alcohol for a month (which is Henrietta's New Year's resolution) and create Eugene out of boredom. And while Henrietta, who counts likes, followers and comments in her free time, is easy tokokodakatitalking, I know that many people care about internet fame and wonder what they could do to become Eugene themselves or at least something close to him.
