ON THE INTERNET EVEN IN DREAMS

A sleepwalking woman has sent three emails to personal contacts. This is the first documented case of a person using the Internet while asleep. The woman found out what she had done the next day, when she received a reply to her invitations.

The 44-year-old woman went to bed at 10pm, but woke up two hours later in a sleepwalking state and sat down at her computer. She turned on the computer, went online, accessed her webmail by betting data entering her username and password and began writing emails, all while asleep.

The emails were written in a random mix of upper and lower case letters and the author used language in a strange way. The sentences give the impression that she was speaking as if in a dream. One message said, “Come tomorrow and sort this hell out. Dinner and drinks, 4pm. Bring only wine and caviar.” Another simply said, “But what…….” It was only when one of the recipients called her the next day to confirm the appointment that the woman realized what had happened.

The journal that reported on the case, Sleep Medicine , says this variant of sleepwalking is called zzz-mailing . What's striking about the case, according to the report's authors, is that the woman engaged in complex behavior, such as turning on her computer and recalling data.
