At any enterprise in different industries, the production process has its own differences and specifics. That is why there are special types of automation for performing certain tasks.
Fixed automation
This approach is also called rigid APP. In most cases, this is a system in which equipment is configured to produce one product and within individual machines. A stationary approach to automation is used in the case of large-scale production, and, as a rule, is characterized by a high entry barrier.
With rigid automation, a large number of sequences and technological operations are combined. Therefore, from the moment the machine is installed, switching production directions becomes a difficult task. Especially considering the high initial investments required for its design and engineering.
Fixed automation
Examples of fixed automation employment database include chemical manufacturing processes, assembly lines, and material conveyor systems.
Programmable automation
It is understood as a production system whose operation is based on a control program, i.e. a set of specific instructions or commands that this structure itself reads, deciphers and executes. The main difference of such automation: it has the ability to change, adapt different configurations of products or use a different sequence. The operator has the ability to enter a new program for the manufacture of the next type of product. Such automation is more often used in serial production.
Examples of this type of automation include the operation of industrial robots, numerically controlled machines, or programmable logic controllers.

Flexible automation
The technological feature of flexible APP is its ability to promptly respond to production changes related to the number of products. To start the work, the personnel program computerized control systems of the machines. As an alternative, it is possible to use human-machine interfaces - HMI. The management of production and loading and unloading structures is carried out by the central computer system, so flexible automation is ideally integrated into serial production. It is also a good option for the simultaneous release of different types of products.
Examples include assembly lines, material handling systems and robotic technology.
