Common SEO Mistakes: Identifying and Fixing Issues

Post by tongfkymm44 »

Mistake 1: Not doing proper keyword research or understanding your audience
We always say that keyword research is the starting point for every project , but what happens when you receive a project that they tell you has already been done? Well, you have to review it anyway to see if it has been focused correctly.

Why do we consider this a common mistake? Because we see projects in which content is created based on a keyword study that has not been properly focused or aligned with business objectives or funnel stages.

Without in-depth research, you may end up targeting the wrong keywords, resulting in irrelevant traffic coming to your website.

Solution:
Here are some tips and recommended tools to do so.

The first thing is to understand your audience: Research and clearly define who your target audience is. Know their interests, needs and problems they seek to solve .

It is also important to study your direct and indirect competitors. Identify the fast food email database list keywords they are ranking for and assess whether you can compete for them or whether they are relevant to your business.

Also determine the intent behind your keywords (informational, navigational, transactional) to ensure your content is satisfying what users are actually searching for.

Finally, keep in mind that it will always be interesting to focus on long-tail keywords that tend to have less competition and can attract more qualified traffic. For example, instead of “digital marketing,” you could focus on “digital marketing strategies for SMEs.”

Here our colleague Alex from the SEO team explains how to find these long-tail keywords.

Recommended Tools: Google Keyword Planner: Provides data on search volume, competition, and related keyword suggestions.

Semrush: Provides search volumes, keyword difficulty, and search trends among other things.

Ahrefs: This tool has its main potential in link analysis, but it also allows you to see profitable keywords and analyze the competition. It is excellent for discovering keyword opportunities.

Sistrix: A very complete SEO tool that also has a section that allows you to perform keyword analysis.

Mistake 2: Low-quality content
Low-quality content can be understood as different types: Duplicate content, content that does not provide a solution to your users' questions, content that has been copied or plagiarized from other websites, content that has been generated entirely using artificial intelligence, etc.

Google prioritizes content quality in its rankings, so if your website is full of low-quality content, it will likely end up hurting you.

This is something I saw in the example I mentioned at the beginning of the post and that motivated me to write it. The problem with this website in question is that it is a health blog, which is considered by Google as “your money or your life” and that all its content was written using 100% artificial intelligence and of course, without being signed by a specialist in the field.

Solution:
Here again we advise you to do a good research on your target audience and to focus the content on what your users need. Of course, it is also important that the content is created by you and not completely written by a software like ChatGPT or similar. You can use them to break away from the “blank canvas” by getting help to generate a draft structure that can then be completed with the writer’s knowledge or to give you ideas or suggestions, but not to write and upload all the content as is without any input from you.

Also avoid duplicating content. It's one thing to reinforce topics that you see are not working well or that have potential, and another completely different thing to duplicate 100% of what you already had or what your competitors had. Perhaps in this case the solution is to review the original content and see if it is necessary to update it with new information.

Mistake 3: Ignoring technical SEO optimizations
They may be ignored by choice or through ignorance, but many times certain errors or lack of optimization at a technical level can cause opportunities to improve rankings to be lost.

There are many types of technical errors, so much could be written about them. We have already talked about this several times on our blog, so I will leave here some content that I think is useful to detail this point:

Technical SEO mistakes you can't forget in your strategy

Mistake 4: Not using analytics or tracking results
This is a very common mistake. Many of the queries we receive in which they say they have no results are accompanied by a lack of follow-up on them. It is more a question of “I think I have no results with what I am doing” than a certainty based on concrete data.

And why do we say that it is an SEO error? Because any digital marketing action, including SEO, can be improved if it is measured.
