Last Tuesday, March 20, Instagram announced the implementation of Shopping in Spain: a new service from the social network that allows business accounts to tag products in their posts (in this case we are referring to organic posts and not ads), offering users the possibility of making the purchase at that very moment, taking them directly to the website of the brand in question. The first place where this new Instagram feature was activated was in the US last year. The results were positive for both businesses and users. In the case of business accounts, because they saw an increase in traffic to their respective websites as well as orders for the products they sold through Instagram Shopping. In the case of users, because their shopping experience improved.

In addition to Spain, Shopping is now also available in Germany, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Italy and the United Kingdom. For Instagram, as they explained in a statement: it is “one of the most important new features of the platform since the launch of the tools for companies in 2016.”

If we take into account that the Instagrammer community amounts to more than 600M users and that 80% of them follow a company account, it is because they are very interested in brands. And this is the value of Shopping, since, in this sense, it connects the needs of users: to explore, find and evaluate new products, enjoying all the possible facilities when making a purchase, with those of companies: to increase visits to their websites, the sale of their products and, in turn, to build good relationships with their target audience, that is, their potential customers.

In order to use this new tool, you need to have a company profile set up.
On the other hand, Shopping is not suitable for all sectors, but your company must sell physical products.
Your products must also be sold through your official website (since this is where users are redirected to make the purchase)
Your product catalog must be available on Facebook (you can do this through Shopify or BigCommerce)
You must have the latest version of Instagram installed
And finally, for the buy button to be activated, you must have published at least 9 posts.

How to enjoy Instagram Shopping
For Instagrammers, using this new tool is very simple, since all they have to do is follow their favorite business accounts, as long as they are affiliated with the Shopping service. But let's go step by step.

First of all, to find out if an account's products can be purchased using this new Instagram service, we need to look at the photos of its products to see if they have the Shopping symbol or not. This symbol is located at the top right of the image:



Once we know that the product can be purchased, it is as simple as clicking on the button TOUCH TO SEE THE PRODUCTS that appears at the bottom left of the photo:



When you click on it, the name and price of the products for sale will be displayed as labels. If you need more information about any of the products, just click again, this time on the price label:



And the photo of the chosen product from the store's catalogue will automatically appear. On this page (which still belongs to Instagram), you will be able to see: the name of the product, a description of it, its price and if you have finally decided to take action, to continue you must click on the BUY button:



Once you click on the purchase button, through its internal browser, Instagram will take you to the website of the store or company that owns the product you want to buy, as the idea is to never leave our profile, being able to buy without leaving it. And this is where you can complete your purchase, taking into account that each company has its own methodology when proceeding:



Irene Cano, General Manager of Facebook and Instagram Spain , explained that: users come to the social network "in search of inspiration" and, with Shopping, it is possible to go "further" in this discovery process with an "immersive showcase" where they can explore the different products of the brands.
