What is UX Writing?

Post by suhasini523 »

UX Writing is a type of user-centered writing that guides users through a digital product to help them meet their goals. Its purpose is to communicate with the user in a way that feels like a conversation, in a natural and simple way. In fact, we interact with this type of communication on a daily basis without even realizing it.

In this type of interface writing, we find microcopies : short texts that suggest the user to perform a certain action. They are characterized by being clear, concise and useful.

Can you imagine an app without text? It seems unthinkable, right? But the truth is that the opposite, too many words, doesn't work either. That's why UX Writing is integrated into the design team and is part of the process from the very beginning.

If you open Gmail, you’ll find a button that says “Compose,” enhanced by a portugal whatsapp resource pencil icon: it’s there to help you accomplish your goal of sending an email quickly.

Chances are you didn't read it, but without that text, new users of the email server wouldn't be quite sure what would happen after they hit that button.

In the Gmail example, there is no loss of money, but what if it were a button that confirms a purchase? When UX Writing is not clear, people leave the site; that is why its implementation is so required in digital and software companies.

What does a UX Writer do?
A UX Writer is in constant communication with the design team and must also have knowledge of UX design and Research. Understanding the purpose of the business, the first thing he or she does is research : you cannot write without knowing who you are writing for; that is, who is the buyer persona to whom the texts will be addressed.

With this fictitious figure already defined, we continue to investigate what the problem is or what concerns the user has and how our product or service would resolve them.

The last thing he does is write. Instead of simply posting compelling texts, he first studies the company's brand manual or style guide. Having a reference for the required voice and tone , he personalizes the interface texts to generate a closer relationship with the user.

Together with the designers, the UX Writer participates in the wireframing process with prototypes : first guide texts, not definitive, that accompany the design to help the consumer.

The text is tested and modifications are made until a final result is achieved that achieves good interaction with users and meets the company's goals, such as informing or converting.

The work doesn't end there. Modifications are continually being made to improve the experience and retain users. UX Writers are also involved in translating content to make the interface sound more human and closer to the culture of the country they are targeting.
