If you want to increase engagement and click-through rates on your call to action , here's a design tip you can put into practice: make your CTA button a contrasting color from the rest of the text.

For example, this is what your CTA might look like:

CTA sample - what CTA can look like
Experts suggest focusing on a single, clear CTA rather than multiple CTAs throughout your school principals email database newsletter copy and using action words and verbs. For example, some of your CTAs might be “Get started now” or “Buy today!”

Other recommendations are:

Repeat CTAs at the end of the copy (to avoid making the reader scan the newsletter again).

Use buttons and graphics instead of text links as CTAs (this will allow you to convert readers more quickly).

Leave white space around the CTA to make it stand out.

And while we're on the subject of CTAs, one final tip would be to focus on the benefit of completing the task. For example, CTAs like "Sign up for free to access XYZ" will show the value you could gain from completing a task as opposed to using a generic CTA like "Sign up!"

#9. Use color psychology to your advantage
Did you know that color can play a psychological role in your email marketing campaigns?

When it comes to design choices, it’s important to actively look at how font and design colors (read: color combinations) can affect your target audience’s mood and/or motivate them to perform certain tasks.

Side note: It is also beneficial to contextualize the color scheme. For example, color association may be different for email recipients depending on where they live and their education and background.

#10. A/B Test Elements to See What Works and What Doesn't
Last but not least, our recommendation would be to always A/B test different design elements and features to see what works and what doesn’t.

And while you're at it, consider using heatmaps to see how email clients interact with your content. Not sure where to start? Try out different email newsletter templates and see which ones work best.

If you find that stock images aren't resonating, try your favorite design tool and create custom graphics for your next email marketing campaign.

Pro Tip: Check out email newsletter examples from your top competitors to see what email templates and other types of messages they use to engage top email customers. It never hurts to take a look at the competition to inspire improvements to your email marketing strategy .
